Onondaga Copper Company Stock Certificate, incorporated in Michigan, issued not cancelled, dated 1913. Company name printed on fancy scroll with fancy borders. This is the 100 share brown variety. Based in Houghton, Houghton County. In very fine +++ condition.
Signed by R. C. Pryor as President and James Duffney as Secretary. 11" x 8 1/2".
The company was organized to acquire and develop mineral rights underlying about 10,000 acres of lands situated west of the Ontonagon River.
At the time this certificate was issued, the company had done several years worth of exploratory drilling, intersecting various lodes. 10 years later, the company remained dormant [Ref: Mines Handbook, several volumes].
From the MICHIGAN GEOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SURVEY:
"ONONDAGA COPPER COMPANY.
During 1913 exploration was carried on by diamond
drilling on the company's lands in Ontonagon county.
Mr. W. B. Smith, Superintendent, resigned and Mr. H. W.
Fesing is now in charge of operations.
Mr. R. C. Pryor, President, in a report to stockholders
says that diamond drilling has been carried on
continuously since August, 1912. A geological and
topographical survey of the company's lands has been
made.
The treasurer's report shows a balance of $74,675 on
hand on January 31, 1914."
